Apply: Key Behaviors to Enhance Your Work Presence

Be Punctual:

Punctuality is more than just being on time; it's a demonstration of your reliability and respect for others' time. Consistent punctuality sets a professional tone and builds trust among your colleagues and supervisors.

Dress Appropriately:

Aligning your attire with the workplace culture is essential. It shows your attentiveness to the company’s norms and helps in projecting a professional image that resonates with your role and responsibilities.

Communicate Clearly:

Effective communication is crucial. Strive to express your ideas succinctly and respectfully. This not only aids in preventing misunderstandings but also enhances your ability to influence and persuade.

Show Initiative:

Anticipate needs and offer solutions proactively. Being proactive in addressing issues or proposing improvements demonstrates your commitment and can distinguish you as a forward-thinking contributor.

Stay Engaged:

Active participation in meetings and team discussions shows your commitment to your role and team’s success. Engage with the content, ask insightful questions, and contribute your ideas freely.

Build Relationships:

Networking isn’t just for outside the company walls. Cultivating strong relationships within your organization can lead to new opportunities and collaborations, enhancing your work experience and visibility.

Practice: Weekly Focus

This week, choose one of the behaviors above to focus on improving. For example, if punctuality has been a challenge, set goals to arrive earlier and track your success throughout the week. Reflect on the changes in how you feel and how others respond to you.

My Workplace Challenge:

Many years ago, near the beginning of my career, I sat at my desk observing my colleague, Chris, who consistently arrived late and seemed disinterested in following the offices professional standards (this was pre casual clothing days). This behavior became particularly challenging during a vital client project when Chris left early, contributing little to the team's urgent brainstorming session. Feeling the burden of compensating for Chris's lack of initiative, I recognized the profound impact that showing up properly could have on team dynamics and project success. This experience reinforced my commitment to being a dependable and engaged presence in the workplace, significantly enhancing both my career path and the team's morale. Thank you for the lesson Chris.
